In the West, we focus on “Happiness” more than we do on “Inner Peace.”
These two states are related, but they aren’t the same. They are two ways of approaching the same thing: an enjoyable experience of life. However, they come at it from opposite angles.
The Western Way (seeking happiness) is to desire certain things and circumstances, and pursue them in the external world. The Eastern Way (cultivating inner peace) is to desire nothing, pursue nothing, and just appreciate the simple joy of existence itself.
